TORONTO, Canada, April 15, 2023 –Prime Minister Philip E. Davis today participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for The Bahamas Consulate General new office in Toronto, Canada.
The opening was held under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fred Mitchell, who both arrived in Toronto Friday night.
In a statement on Facebook, the Office of the Prime Minister noted that Bahamians “have long had a strong presence in Canada, and our historic ties have only grown stronger over time.”
“As the majority of Bahamians living in Canada are located in Toronto, relocating the Consulate Office to the city will help to more effectively serve the needs of our people and bolster the government’s commitment to fostering closer ties with the Bahamian diaspora,” the statement added.
The Consulate General in Toronto, located in the Yonge Eglinton Center on 2300 Yonge Street, is headed by Consul General Al Dillette.
Its coverage has been extend to the Canadian Provence of Ontario, Québec City, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Halifax, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Consul General Dillette is a public relations specialist, having served in numerous roles, including Director General of Information, Press Attache to former Prime Minister Perry Christie, Director of Communications for the Foreign Ministry, Manager of The Bahamas Olympic Committee, and as a national Broadcaster.
Prime Minister Davis also attend a special diaspora event after the opening, organized by the Government of The Bahamas, for Bahamian nationals residing in Canada.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the visit is a testament to the strong relationship between The Bahamas and Canada, and highlights the Government’s commitment to fostering closer ties with the Bahamian diaspora.
