WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 11, 2023 – Having completed what clearly was a highly successful two-day visit to Chicago, Bahamas Prime Minister Philip E. Davis this evening posted an insightful “thank you” message on Facebook to officials in Chicago in the narrative that accompanied a collection of photos.

“Chicago, thank you for your very warm welcome and a very productive day,” the Prime Minister wrote, adding: “The Mayor of Chicago and the Speaker of the House of Illinois are two dynamic black leaders doing important work on tough issues, and I know we will continue to exchange ideas and share solutions. The senior team at the Obama Foundation is doing inspiring work, especially in nurturing new leaders around the world and in creating new opportunities for young men of colour.”

He added, “A spirited roundtable at Loyola University and an interview with National Public Radio’s Chicago affiliate were a good opportunity to make the case for more action on climate change. At a meeting with business leaders, we spoke about the role of investment partnerships in the development of diverse sectors of our economy. As we celebrated 50 years of Independence with Bahamians who reside in Illinois, it was wonderful to see the Chicago skyline lit up in blue and yellow in honour of our country.”

On Monday, the Prime Minister was the featured speaker at the City Club of Chicago luncheon at Maggiano’s Banquets, 111 W. Grand Avenue.

Founded in 1903, City Club Of Chicago “attracts those interested in civic responsibility, public issues, open political debate and networking opportunities,” and “is the longest-running civic forum in Chicago,” according to its website.

The Prime Minister and a Bahamian delegation also paid a courtesy call on Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who presented the Prime Minister with a Chicago Cubs jersey. Prime Minister Davis is an avid baseball fan and actively participated as a player in The Bahamas during his younger years.
