RBDF: HAITIAN MIGRANTS USING STOLEN U.S. VESSELS

NASSAU, Bahamas — There are now increasing trends of Haitian migrants coming into The Bahamas illegally on stolen U.S. boats and more technologically advanced sloops, said Lieutenant Commander Carlon Bethell, squadron commanding officer in the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF), the Nassau Guardian reported on July 20.

Bethell’s comments come amidst increased patrols in the aftermath of civil unrest in Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien in Haiti, in order to combat any possible influx of Haitian migrants.

“It’s a bit of a turmoil there [and] whenever you see there is turmoil [in Haiti], you’d see an increase in Haitian migrants trying to leave,” said Bethell, during the RBDF Operation Marine Strike press conference at Bahamas National Trust. https://thenassauguardian.com/2018/07/20/rbdf-haitian-migrants-using-stolen-u-s-vessels/
