SAINT LUCIA, August 19, 2020 – The first phase of the reopening of the tourism sector has been extended. The new date is now set for September 30, with the reason for extension being the risks associated with this phase. The ministries of Tourism and Health are working collaboratively to ensure strict health and safety measures exist and are followed.
Minister for Tourism, Information and Broadcasting, Hon. Dominic Fedee, indicated that while the first phase has been extended the Ministry of Tourism is exploring options to add additional attractions and restaurants, so as to boost foreign exchange circulation within the local economy.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Information and Broadcasting, Ms. Donalyn Vittet, said considerations for the second phase encompass the inclusion of diving as an activity, the reopening of other sites and attractions once certified for operation under COVID-19 protocols, and reopening villas and Airbnb properties to international jurisdictions.
