SCHEDULE SET FOR PREMIER HOYTES LADIES BASKETBALL INVITATIONAL IN GB

SHARON STORR

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama — Tournament Director Sharon “The General” Storr has completed earlier scheduling for the 20th HOYTES Geneva Rutherford Girls Invitational Basketball Tournament, to take place in Freeport, Grand Bahama February 20-23, the Freeport News reported January 29.

“We are trying to get everything together. I anticipate a solid event, once more, and it is always good to highlight the young ladies of our sport. We have a good number of teams scheduled to compete in the two divisions, Senior Girls and Junior Girls. I have included 18 teams in the start-off scheduling,” communicated Storr on Monday.

As emphasized in this space on more than one occasion, the tournament represents one of the foremost platforms of competition for the fairer sex in the country. What has been so impressive about the tournament has been the opportunity for very young girls to get a feel for actual competition.

I recall tiny tots from Freedom Baptist, who developed into players with a “handle” on the ball comparable to players from the more noted schools. The tournament is always conducted in the two categories.

This time around, according to Tournament Director Storr, 12 teams have entered the Senior Division: They include Anothol Rodgers (New Providence), Bishop Michael Eldon School (Grand Bahama), C.I. Gibson (New Providence), C.R. Walker (New Providence), C.V. Bethel (New Providence), Doris Johnson (New Providence), Eight Mile Rock High (Grand Bahama), Freedom Baptist (New Providence), Jack Hayward (Grand Bahama), R.M. Bailey (New Providence), St. George’s High (Grand Bahama), and Tabernacle High (Grand Bahama). http://thefreeportnews.com/…/schedule-set-premier-hoytes-l…/
