SERIOUS LACK OF “GENDER EQUALITY” IN THE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

Michael A. Foulkes, MP for Golden Gates, posted this photo on his Facebook page with the following caption: “Join us now live on ZNS Parliamentary Channel to observe this morning’s brief session (Wednesday, January 29, 2020), which will be followed by the Parliamentary Church. Next week we will return for the Deputy Prime Minister’s Mid-Year Budget Communication.”

I decided to add it to my PHOTO ARCHIVES for future possible use. As a former newspaper editor, I have habitually added photos to my PHOTO ARCHIVES for years, some of which are now historically important. Whether or not at some point in time this photo will be similarly classified remains to be seen, but there is one area in which it could very well be used in the future to confirm a drastic change in “gender equality” in the  House of Assembly. Clearly, it is obvious this photo underscores the fact that politically, The Bahamas remains a male-dominated chauvinistic country. I recognize three women MPs in this group, and I know that Glenys Hanna-Martin is MP for Eglerston, so we currently only have four women members of the House?
