NASSAU, Bahamas — Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Chairperson of the U.S. House of Representatives  Financial Services Committee, her husband Sidney Williams, former U.S. Ambassador to The Bahamas, and  Congressman Al Green, Representative for Texas’s 9th District, paid an official visit to The Bahamas to see the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian.

During a courtesy call on officials at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Gladstone Road on Thursday, October 10, they received an update on the recovery process underway in Abaco and Grand Bahama, the two Northern Bahamian islands that received the brunt of the Category 5 hurricane’s fury the first week of September.

They also visited Abaco and were hosted to a private dinner Thursday night by Bahamian business tycoon Sir Franklyn Wilson and Lady Sharon Wilson, with whom Congresswoman Waters and her husband developed a very close friendship during Mr. Williams’ tenure as U.S. Ambassador to The Bahamas from 1994 to 1998.

Ambassador Williams was an extremely popular U.S. envoy and he and Congresswoman Waters  have frequently visited The Bahamas after his diplomatic appointment ended, especially during the Christmas season when they have front-row seats at the Boxing Day, December 26, and New Year’s Day Junkanoo parades along Bay Street in downtown Nassau. They are usually house guests of Sir Franklyn and Lady Sharon.
