(EDITOR’ NOTE: Aisha Bowe is better known as an aerospace engineer who is the founder and CEO of STEMBoard, a technology solutions company. Although they are not technology-related, I was compelled to share these sage “tips” that she posted on her Facebook page with a photo that looked as if she was auditioning for the cover of Glamour Magazine.

STOP COUNTING DAYS AND START MAKING YOUR DAYS COUNT

Below are a few of my favorite tips and quarantine strategies.

  1. Stick to a routine. Go to sleep and wake up at a reasonable time, write a schedule that includes variety with a bit of time for work and self-care. Yup, self-care is huge. Even if it’s going fishing or a solo walk, find a few moments for yourself.
  2. Dress for the social life you want, not the social life you have. Sure, I’m not wearing any suits 😊 but, I do make it a point to get dressed 👗 Sounds simple but getting showered and dressed contributes to a sense of normalcy. If you’re feeling extra, add in a bath or a facial.
  3. Get out at least once a day, for at least 30 minutes. While I don’t prefer to be locked inside, I’m enjoying the quality time with my mom and extended family phone time. Each night at around 7 we venture out for our walk. I treat this time as an opportunity to learn more about her (or if she wants to zone out), I reach out to others or catch up on my favorite podcasts. I even have started asking family members to share their favorite recipes. If you are concerned about contact, try first thing in the morning, or later in the evening, and try less traveled streets and avenues. I ordered masks and gloves on amazon just to be safe.
  4. Stay hydrated and eat well. SAY NO TO THE RONA WEIGHT! This one may seem obvious, but stress and eating often don’t mix well, and we find ourselves over-indulging, forgetting to eat, and avoiding food. Drink plenty of water, eat some good and healthy food and challenge yourself to learn how to cook something new!
  5. Find a BIG project to dive into. Now is the time to binge watch an 8-season show, get your Security+, learn to cook or create your own first-person account of these crazy times. Find something that will keep you busy, help you evolve and provides a bit of excitement each day. Bonus points for online classes and webinars.
  6. LAUGH A LOT. Find humor in each day. Animal videos are always a fave. With all the heaviness in the news each day, there’s more than enough to weigh us down. Fight this heaviness with something funny EVERY DAY

How are you staying sane?
