ST. GEORGE’S HIGH STUDENT IS 2023/2024 NATIONAL TEACHER CADET OF THE YEAR

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama, March 29, 2024 – A graduating senior at St. George’s High School in Grand Bahama has been selected as the 2023/2024 National Teacher Cadet of the Year.

This was revealed yesterday in a post on Facebook by Ricardo P. Deveaux, President and CEO of the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation, in extending congratulations to the Foundation’s 2018 semifinalist Brihel Moore.

Mr. Deveaux, who is also Deputy Permanent Secretary at Bahamas Ministry of Education and Technical and Vocational Training, noted that Bridel is an “Honour Roll Scholar” at St. George’s, where she received 3 A’s in her BGCSE exams as a 10th -grade student and 2 A’s as an 11th grader.

“Brihel Moore, who represented Walter Parker Primary in the 2018 Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program, is truly among the BEST and BRIGHTEST of our former nominees,” Mr. Deveaux said. “We are proud of you Brihel.”

In a Mission Statement on its website, The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program notes that it “recognizes outstanding 6th grade students in the Bahamian Educational system regardless of colour, creed, family heritage, island or school representation, nationality or religious affiliation.”

“The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program is a premier National Awards Recognition program for 6th graders in The Bahamas,” the website states. “Since it was established in 1997, over 3,000 primary school students have been recognized and over $2 Million Dollars in scholarships. The 2023 Totals: $246,000.00 in scholarships and $50,000.00 in prizes (Airline tickets, trophies, medals, computers, donation of books and other prizes) Grand total: over $2.5 Million Dollars since 1997 in scholarship and prizes.”
