GUEST COMMENTARY: BY DPM CHESTER COOPER
(EDITOR’S NOTE: I decided to share this narrative that accompanied a collection of photos posted on Facebook by Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper as a brief Guest Commentary with readers of BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which has a huge following among Bahamians in the diaspora across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom as well as in the wider Caribbean.)
NASSAU, Bahamas, August 21, 2022 — This weekend, I had the privilege of observing the many victories of Team Bahamas at the 2022 Goodwill Swim Meet in Trinidad.
The performances made me and our country proud! But further than that, visiting with them and presenting the medals to many of our athletes was a true delight.
I observed great camaraderie amongst the many parents, coaches and chaperones who told me about how elated they were to get their children to the meet. Our nation is grateful for their great personal sacrifices. Our team was small but powerful and it showed in our medal count.
I committed our government to offering more support next year, so the great potential of our athletes can be further recognized.
Congratulations to our children and all who supported, to make their performance at the Goodwill Games a magnificent success!
EDITOR’S NOTE: Deputy Prime Minister Cooper, who is also Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, was in Trinidad as head of the Bahamian delegation that participated in the second CARICOM Agri-Investment Forum and Expo held in Port-of-Spain, August 18—21, under the theme, “Transforming Agriculture through Innovation and Investment.” The delegation included H.E. Winston Pinnock, Bahamas Ambassador to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
