OTTAWA, Canada,, July 13, 2023 — To celebrate The Bahamas’ 50th anniversary of independence, The Bahamas High Commission in Ottawa, Canada, has invited the world-famous Bahamas Junkanoo Legends dance group to perform at the ByWard Market Square, George Street Plaza,  on Saturday, July 15, beginning at 1 p.m.

Also on Saturday, a reception will be held at  Bahamas House, 211 Rockeliffe Drive, the residence of High Commissioner V. Alfred Gray,  from 5 p.m. to  5 pm.

On Sunday morning, Bahamians and friends of The Bahamians will attend Mass at St. Marks Anglican Church  on Fisher Drive.

A number of events celebrating the 50 th anniversary of The Bahamas’ attainment of independence from Great  Britain on July 10, 1973, have already been held leading up to Independence Day. A spectacular spectacle unfolded on the evening of July 9 as Edmonton’s iconic High Level Bridge was brilliantly illuminated in the vibrant colors of the Bahamian flag.

Mr. Barrios is a part of a group of senior executives from the Bahamas Out Island Promotion Board, the Nassau/ Paradise Island Promotion Board, the Bahamas Hotel Association, and other organizations that are dedicated to improving the educational opportunities in The Bahamas.
