THERE’S NO BETTER WAY TO SPEND A SUNDAY AFTERNOON THAN WATCHING THE BNSB LIVE  FROM NASSAU

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 10,2019 — There’s no better way for me to spend my  Sunday afternoon than watching The Bahamas National Spelling Bee (BNSB), which is currently being broadcast live by ZNS-TV from the Crown Ballroom of Atlantis at Paradise Island. As the person responsible for introducing the Scripps National Spelling Bee to The Bahamas  back in 1997 when I was Editor of the Nassau Guardian, my heart was jumping with joy as the 24 excellent young spellers from across The Bahamas introduced themselves on stage.

The winner will represent The Bahamas in the 92nd annual Scripps National Spelling Bee at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, near Washington, .D.C., from May 27 – 30. However, a new invitational program called RSVBee was introduced last year by the Scripps National Spelling Bee to allow jurisdictions to send two champion spellers to the prestigious spelling competition, and I certainly hope that The Bahamas takes advantage of the opportunity to send  two spellers to the Scripps  Bee his year.

I have a collection of Spelling Bee shirts that I accumulated during the early years of the BNSB when I was very much involved in organizing the competition, and as you can see, I am wearing one of them as I watch these talented young students perform on stage.
