NASSAU, Bahamas — According to Minister of State for Grand Bahama Kwasi Thompson, technology could become the third pillar of the Bahamian economy. He cited the government’s Technology Hub Steering Committee, which has called for the economy to be diversified and “expand beyond our reliance on tourism and financial services,” the Nassau Guardian reported on July 9.
The committee found that Freeport, Grand Bahama, is ideal for the establishment of technology businesses and can support five times the population that currently exists on the island.
According to the committee, the technology sector could become a significant contributor to the Bahamian economy and gross domestic product and be a major employer and wealth creator for Bahamians. It could also support the development of knowledge professionals and position The Bahamas as a technology innovator.
“It is clear that, for Grand Bahama and The Bahamas, a tech industry could support real estate, business tourism, retail, construction, transportation and business services,” said Thompson. https://thenassauguardian.com/2018/07/09/thompson-technology-could-become-third-pillar-of-economy/
