TRAYCE THOMPSON BACK IN THE MAJOR LEAGUE

By OSWALD T. BROWN

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 6, 2022 –Trayce Thompson, son of Bahamian-born former NBA superstar Mychal Thompson and  younger brother of current NBA star Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors, is back in the Major League with the San Diego Padres.

Thompson was in the starting lineup in right field for the Padres in Thursday’s game against the Miami Marlins.

The Padres announced on its website that it had “selected the contract of outfielder Trayce Thompson from Triple-A El Paso and placed fellow outfielder Wil Myers on the 10-day IL due to a left thumb injury.”

Thompson was having a sensational season at El Paso. The 31-year-old former big leaguer had already hit 9 home runs in 16 minor league games this season.

Against the Marlins on Thursday night, however, batting ninth, he went 0-2.

San Diego defeated Miami, 2-1, and two teams will square-off again tonight in San Diego. Of course, because Jazz Chisholm, Jr., the Bahamian professional baseball superstar, plays for Miami, I always pull for Miami, except when they are playing my beloved Washington Nationals.  However, I shall be pulling for Trayce Thompson to get a hit every time he comes to bat. He may not be a born Bahamian, but he has some deep, deep Bahamian roots.

Trayce has previously has played in Majors for the Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Athletics, and Chicago Cubs.
