U.S. CHARGE D’AFFAIRES PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO BAHAMAS RED CROSS

NASSAU, Bahamas, August 22, 2024 – Ms. Kimberley Furnish, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Nassau, paid a courtesy visit to the Bahamas Red Cross Society in Nassau on Wednesday, April 21.

Noting that it “was a pleasure to welcome Charge’ of the US Embassy Ms. Kimberley Furnish at the Bahamas Red Bahamas Red Cross Society,” Bahamas Red Cross President Edison L. Sumner added, “I am excited to build this new chapter with her and our friends at the US Embassy. Thank you for your Continued support.

Ms. Furnish began her diplomatic tenure as Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Nassau in June and was officially welcomed to The Bahamas  by Prime Minister Philip E. Davis during a courtesy call on the Prime Minister on June 27.

A career U.S. Foreign Service Officer, Ms. Furnish most recently served as the Department of State’s Director of American Citizen Services & Crisis Management.  In that role, she worked as the Department’s senior leader on the protection of U.S. citizens overseas and linked with the interagency to help inform and advocate for the security of Americans worldwide.

Ms. Furnish’s prior diplomatic tour was as the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Attaché at the United States Consulate General in Karachi, Pakistan.  Previously she also served as Chief of American Citizen Services at Embassy Seoul, which has a consular district of more than 200,000 U.S. citizens. In Seoul, Ms. Furnish served as the lead on Noncombatant Evacuation Operation issues, leading the plans on the potential evacuation of the Korean Peninsula.

In 2018, Ms. Furnish had the responsibility of running the U.S. Embassy team that provided services to U.S. citizens who visited Korea for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and Paralympics.  She also served as the head Embassy control officer to Vice President Mike Pence in his role as the chief official to the U.S. Government’s Official Delegation to the Opening Ceremonies.

Ms. Furnish’s other previous tours include Melbourne, Seoul, Bogota, Curacao and in the Department in the Bureau of Consular Affairs and the Bureau of African Affairs.

Prior to joining the Foreign Service, she worked in corporate fundraising and earned a bachelor’s degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
