WASHINGTON, D.C., September 5, 2023 – As a former entertainment promoter through my company BRODEAN PROMOTIONS in the 1960s, I am tremendously impressed by the United Artists Bahamas Union (UABU) outreach efforts on behalf of its members.
The most recent laudable effort was revealed today in a post on Facebook by UABU Public Relations Director Linc Scavella about an upcoming address to union members by Dr. Jamal Moncur, CEO of Newlife Natural Vegetation Cell Food Ltd. and former Chief Executive Officer at NewLife Natural Vegetation in Freeport.
I was so impressed by the post that I decided to share its contents with readers of my online publication, BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which has a huge following among the Bahamian diaspora across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom as well as in The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean.
Mr. Scavella shared a collection of photos with the following narrative:
“United Artists Bahamas Union is much concerned about the health of its membership and the creatives in the music and entertainment industries in the Bahamas as a whole. Hence, we have placed HEALTH and WELFARE at the top of our priority list. Subsequently… immediate plans are underway for Dr. Jamal Moncur of NEW LIFE VEGETATION & CELL FOOD LTD., to address and sensitize our members and the creatives community as a whole… with regards to healthy eating and healthy lifestyle. Further, we have already created the ground work for a medical health plan for our members. While we have a Burial Society Group Insurance in place, we are more concerned about our members living long and healthy lives.
In view of the foregoing, we wish for all creatives in the music and entertainment industries who are interested in our upcoming address by Dr. Jamal Moncur to contact our office for further details.

EDITOR’S NOTE: In the 1960s, BRODEAN PROMOTIONS, which I owned in partnership with my late close friend from boyhood days Leo Dean, promoted many shows featuring Bahamian entertains in New Providence and the Family Islands, quite often in Exuma and Andros. On more than one occasion, Smokey 007 and Leon Taylor and the Roosters were the stars of our shows.
