UB ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENT OF MAELYNN FORD AS ACTING UNIVERSITY SECRETARY AND DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL PROJECTS

Maelynn Ford has been appointed by UB as Acting University Secretary and Director of Special Projects in the Division of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Affairs.

NASSAU, Bahamas, January 13, 2023 – The University of The Bahamas (UB) today announced the dual appointment of Mrs. Maelynn Ford as Acting University Secretary, a position enshrined in the University of The Bahamas Act, 2016, who will also serve as Director of Special Projects in the Division of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Affairs.

In a statement posted on Facebook, UB said the appointment is effective January 1, 2023, noting that the “role of University Secretary is central to the administration of the UB Board of Trustees.’’

Reporting to Chair of the Board, Mrs. Ford is responsible for documenting board meetings, maintaining the disclosure register, and preparing minutes relative to deliberations, discussions, and applicable resolutions for further communication and distribution. She will also consult with the President/Chief Executive Officer to keep him fully informed of matters relating to the business of the Board, and form effective working relationships with other senior administrators in the University to facilitate the effective conduct of Board business. 

Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement & Alumni Affairs, as Director of Special Projects, Mrs. Ford is responsible for planning and coordinating a variety of special projects and events, and leading other urgent projects. She will collaborate with university leadership and across university departments to engage audiences in purposeful activities that promote the university’s mission and vision.

Additionally, she is responsible for overseeing the Office of University Special Projects, managing event and programme planning logistics and convening the Ceremonial and Occasions Committee for academic ceremonies.

Mrs. Ford has served as an employee of the institution since 2005, holding the position of Writer in the former Office of Communication. She also completed a two-year term at the Office of the Prime Minister. In 2015, she was appointed Executive Assistant to the President of UB and in 2017 became the Chief of Staff. Over the years, she has served on and chaired several university committees and working groups.

Mrs Ford earned a Master of Arts degree in Poetic Practice and a Bachelor of Arts degree (Hons.) in English from the Royal Holloway, University of London, Egham, Surrey, UK.
