VISITOR ARRIVALS TOP FIVE MILLION MARK IN JUNE

NASSAU, Bahamas — Visitors arrivals to The Bahamas up to June have topped the five million mark according to Tourism Director General Latia Duncombe, who revealed that this represents a nearly 30 percent increase over the same period in 2019 – a banner year for the country’s tourism sector. “Year-to-date June we have topped the five million visitor arrival mark which would be a 66.5 percent increase over 2022 and 29.6 percent over our banner year 2019,” Duncombe noted during a presentation at a Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association Board of Directors meeting yesterday.

Foreign air arrivals up to June were also reported to be 957,000, a 27.5 percent increase over 2022 and a 2.3 percent increase over 2019.

“Our cruise performance remains very strong,” said Duncombe.

“From January to June we had 3.9 million cruise arrivals, an 81 percent increase over 2022 and  42 percent increase over 2019.”

Joy Jibrilu, CEO of the Nassau/Paradise Island Promotion Board, said that based on currently loaded schedules, 2019 seat capacity levels will be exceeded in October of this year.

Airlift capacity is reported to be up in the second quarter by 15 percent over the past year.

Jibrilu also noted that there has been an 84 percent increase in visitors to the Nassau/Paradise Island website, amounting to 5.6 million visitors.

Additionally, there has been an 84 percent increase in new visitors and a 66  percent increase in link-outs to member properties.
