“WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER,” U.S. EMBASSY IN NASSAU DECLARES IN REPONSE TO REQUEST MADE BY BAHAMAS PRIME MINISTER MIINNIS

Stephanie Bowers, Chargé d’Affaires at the United States Embassy in Nassau, heeded the call by Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis for everyone fighting the COVID-19 pandemic to wear Bahamian colors in solidarity on April 27.

NASSAU, Bahamas — On April 27, Bahamas Prime Minister Dr the Hon Hubert A. Minnis asked “us all to wear Bahamian colors in solidarity with everyone fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.” Stephanie Bowers, Chargé d’Affaires at the United States Embassy in Nassau, heeded the call and shared this message on the Embassy’s Facebook page on Tuesday, April 28:

“At the U.S. Embassy we’ve come together as a team, and with our Bahamian partners and friends, to slow the spread of COVID-19. First of all, we’re following the Emergency Powers Orders, which means most U.S. Embassy personnel are teleworking from home. Our team is also recalibrating our partnership with The Bahamas in response to the pandemic.

To name a few examples, we donated computers to the Ranfurly Homes for Children so that the youth there could take advantage of the Ministry of Education, Bahamas’ distance learning programming. We also continue to help The Bahamas Ministry of Health connect to U.S. suppliers with available stock of increasingly scarce medical supplies. And our Operation Bahamas, Turks and Caicos team is working closely with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and Royal Bahamas Police Force to help secure the border.

And even as we respond to COVID-19, we also know that hurricane season is just over a month away, and we are looking ahead at how we can continue supporting the preparations of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA-Bahamas) and the Ministry for Disaster Preparedness, Management and Reconstruction. We stand in solidarity with the people of The Bahamas. Now and always #WeAreAllinThisTogether.”
