YOUNG AUTHOR PRESENTS CULTURAL BAHAMIAN BOOK TO MOETVT OFFICIALS
Makayla Horton, a 10th grade student at Lyford Cay International School, recently wrote a Bahamian cultural book for children entitled “Island Legends”. She along with her mother, Mrs. Niekia Horton presented copies of her book to Mr. Ricardo Deveaux, Deputy Permanent Secretary and Ms. Janice Moss, Acting Deputy Director of Education, at the Ministry of Education and Technical and Vocational Training, University Drive on Monday, 24th July, 2023.
The book is about The Bahamas’ most legendary creatures – Anansi, Chickcharney, Gaulin and Lusca. The young author wanted to document these mythical creatures and their stories to be passed on for generations to come. Her hope is to help preserve a piece of Bahamian culture, through the power of imagination and storytelling.
