Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Michael Darville, Minister of State for Health and Wellness Owen Wells, and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pearl McMillan are in Washington, D.C., attending the 63rd Directing Council and 78th Session of the Regional Committee of the World Health Organization.
The meeting, which runs from September 28 to October 2, brings together regional health leaders to discuss major public health challenges, including disease outbreaks, health emergencies, climate-related events, and the continued burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
The Bahamas is also expected to be among the countries recognized for progress in disease elimination, following the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
The gathering provides an opportunity for health officials to exchange experiences, review regional priorities and strengthen cooperation on key health issues affecting countries across the Americas and the Caribbean.
