NASSAU, Bahamas, March 6, 2024 — The Bahamas Red Cross Society is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Trevor Johnson as the new Chairman of the Disaster Risk Management Committee. Dr. Johnson, a highly esteemed figure in the field of disaster preparedness and response, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role, and is poised to lead the committee with distinction.
President of the Bahamas Red Cross Society, Edison L. Sumner expressed his pleasure with Dr. Johnson’s appointment, stating, “Dr. Johnson is an exceptional choice for this vital position. His extensive experience and profound commitment to disaster risk management make him the ideal leader to guide our efforts in protecting and supporting our communities during times of crisis. We are confident that under his chairmanship, the committee will achieve new heights in mitigating disaster risks and enhancing our readiness for any emergency.”
Dr. Johnson, a valedictorian of the College of The Bahamas, holds a distinguished academic record including a Master’s with distinction from the University of the West Indies and a Ph.D. from North Dakota State University. His professional background includes strategic advisory roles in disaster management and currently provides subject matter expertise to the InterAmerican Development Bank and the Pacific Disaster Center.
Committed to service, Dr. Johnson is also recognized for his active participation in the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, the Rotary Club of Old Fort, and the Holy Cross Anglican Church.
The Bahamas Red Cross Society eagerly anticipates Dr. Johnson’s leadership and contributions to disaster risk management.
