BAHAMIANS IN THE NEW YORK-AREA DIASPORA ATTEND MASS AT SAINT PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL TO CELEBRATE THE BAHAMAS’ 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE

NEW YORK, N.Y., July 16, 2023 –The Bahamians in the New York-area diaspora, led by His Excellency Wendall Jones, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, and Consul General Leroy Major turned out in large numbers on Sunday, July 16,  for a Mass at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral in New York City to celebrate The Bahamas’ 50th anniversary of independence.

They were welcomed by The Very Rev. Enrique Salvo, Rector of St. Patrick’s, who also preached the sermon. The Bahamas National Youth Choir sang prior to communion.

On Friday, July 14, Ambassador Jones was the featured speaker at a flag-raising ceremony and reception at Riverside Park in Harlem, which was  attended by New York City Mayor Eric Adams and other City officials.

Ambassador Jones presents a coffee table book on the 50th Anniversary to The Very Rev. Enrique Salvo. The book was  produced by Jones Communications Network in Nassau.
