(EDITOR’S NOTE: The following statement was released on Facebook by Bishop Walter S. Hanchell on Monday, September 13.)

NASSAU, Bahamas — Trouble and sickness will reveal who really care for you and who your friends are.

I was blessed during my affliction to have been visited by the Hon. Philip Brave Davis all the way in North Carolina just before my miraculous surgeries.

Mr. Davis was accompanied by Senator Fred Mitchell and they along with Dr. R.E. Cooper and my good friend Gene Krcelic really encouraged me. It was an unforgettable moment.

FLASHBACK: Philip “Brave” Davis, leader of the Opposition Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), chatting with Bishop Walter Hanchell on Monday, May 17,   in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

I would like to publicly thank Mr. Davis and his entourage for his courtesy call and his kindness and compassion.

My wife, Elder Minalee Hanchell, son, Dr. Tejado W. Hanchell and daughter, Dr. Tamalia Gibson, along with my family, join me in thanking all who visited, prayed and assisted me during my illness. I extend special thanks to the Christian community, Bahamians at large and the many Pastors who organized a national day of prayer for me and also those who supported me financially. I am forever grateful and will never forget your love.

Your prayers, well wishes and acts of kindness have made a great impact in my recovery. Today, I return to the United States to continue treatment and anticipate a full recovery, even though my doctors say it will take over a year. I’ve experienced some recent complications but I know it’s only a part of the process.

To those who are unaware, I was diagnosed with stomach cancer in early March 2021 and two weeks later received another diagnosis of kidney cancer. I endured 2 major surgeries that lasted for 9 hours. By the grace and  mercy of God, I am extremely grateful to be alive today. I have watched persons with similar diagnosis pass away, but by the mercies of the Highest, I’m still in the land of the living. The Word declares that “I shall LIVE and not die to declare the works of the Lord”.

By FAITH, I believe and receive the powerful Word of the Most High. My faith has been tested but also strengthened in the Lord. I’m expecting great things.

Father, may my life be a witness and a testimony to all as I lift up the name of Jesus Christ and declare the goodness of God over the people that He has placed in my circle.

May the Most High be glorified, the people of God be edified and may the devil and his imps be horrified.

This message is from the one Jehovah has HEALED.

I returned to worship Him and give Him all the praise.

Your servant in Christ,

+Walter S. Hanchell
