PLP WANTS PROBE INTO WSC CONTRACT AWARDS

PLP Leader Philip “Brave” Davis says the allegations are “extremely serious” and “deeply concerning.”

NASSAU, Bahamas — Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Leader Philip “Brave” Davis yesterday called on the attorney general and commissioner of police to immediately launch an investigation after Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) documents were revealed, ensnaring the Free National Movement’s Long Island candidate, Adrian Gibson, in controversy, The Nassau Guardian reported on Tuesday, August 31.

Though he released a statement on Sunday, Gibson has failed to address key questions connected to the award of WSC contracts.

Leaked WSC documents show that the company, whose director has the same name as his fiancée, was awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in contracts by the corporation.

While Gibson denied that he has any beneficial interest or any other interest in the company, Elite Maintenance Incorporated Ltd., he did not say whether his fiancée, whom he identified in a police report last October as Alexandria Mackey, was the same Alexandria Mackey listed as the director of Elite.

The Nassau Guardian contacted Mackey, who was listed as the director of Elite Maintenance in the leaked documents.

“We have nothing to say at this time,” she said before hanging up the phone yesterday.

Davis, a former minister of public works, said the allegations are “extremely serious” and “deeply concerning”.

“The attorney general and the commissioner of police must both uphold their statutory duties and instruct the Anti-Corruption Unit at the Royal Bahamas Police Force to launch an investigation immediately,” he said.

The Progressive Liberal Party’s candidate for Freetown, Wayne Munroe, QC, said the response to the allegations by WSC General Manager Elwood Donaldson and Gibson were not sufficient.

Munroe said Gibson should resign from WSC immediately. See complete story in The Nassau Guardian at https://thenassauguardian.com/some-displaced-hurricane-survivors-face-new-blow-disenfranchisement/
