GRAND BAHAMA, The Bahamas — The Department of Public Service PSCHRD Unit has concluded its six-week technology series, a hands-on training initiative designed to equip public officers with the digital skills and confidence needed to use productivity tools more effectively in their daily work.
The series concluded on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 with the final session, “Canva for Professional Communication,” which introduced participants to how digital design tools can enhance workplace communication through the creation of materials such as flyers, newsletters, presentations, and other professional resources.
Carla Brown-Roker, Team Lead at PSCHRD, said the programme was developed after recognising that many public officers were hesitant about using digital tools and needed additional support to strengthen their skills.
The six-week series covered a range of digital productivity tools, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access for Records Management, PowerPoint, Canva, and other applications selected to align with the daily responsibilities of public officers.
Roker explained that participants were able to identify workplace challenges and explore how technology could help manage information more efficiently and reduce the time spent completing certain tasks.

She noted that feedback from participants highlighted the continued need for digital training opportunities throughout the public service, with an average attendance of 25 to 30 participants at each session.
Roker added that the public service and government continue to transition away from paper-based practices toward greater use of digital systems. She emphasised that programmes such as these will play an important role in preparing public officers with the knowledge and skills needed to support this ongoing digital transformation.
