RE: HENFIELD IS COFCOR CHAIRMAN

NASSAU, Bahamas — The Hon. Darren A. Henfield, Bahamas Minister of Foreign Affairs, has described his selection as incoming Chairman of CARICOM’s Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) as “a great honour.” The Foreign Ministers of the 15 CARICOM countries that are members of the Organization of American States (OAS) held a two-day meeting in Nassau May 7-8.  According to information gleaned from CARICOM’s website, COFCOR “determines relations between the Community and international organizations and third states and promotes the development of friendly and mutually beneficial relations among member states.” Specifically,  Article 16 of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas states that the  Council  “shall   consist of  Ministers responsible for the foreign affairs of Member States.”
