Support for underwater communication technology will help enhance hands-on marine education experiences for Bahamian youth
NASSAU, NP – RF Bank & Trust is supporting the Bahamas Reef Environment Educational Foundation (BREEF) in its efforts to expand hands-on marine education for young Bahamians, providing funding for underwater communication equipment that will enhance the organization’s snorkeling and marine education programmes.
The underwater communication equipment will allow BREEF to make its snorkeling experiences more interactive, giving participants access to real-time information and instruction while in the water. It will also help strengthen communication and safety while creating more engaging opportunities for participants to learn about marine life and ecosystems firsthand.
The technology will complement BREEF’s wider environmental education programmes, which give students and other participants opportunities to explore and learn about The Bahamas’ marine environment through field trips, snorkeling excursions, sea camps and the Young Reporters for the Environment programme. By combining education with firsthand experiences, BREEF aims to deepen young Bahamians’ understanding of the country’s natural resources and encourage them to play an active role in protecting the marine environment.

The support builds on BREEF’s ongoing work to foster ocean stewardship and environmental awareness through education and direct interaction with the marine environment.

Munroe added that the support will also help BREEF expand the ways Bahamians connect with the country’s marine resources.

Through its educational programmes, BREEF works to build a deeper understanding of marine ecosystems and the role individuals and communities can play in their conservation. Hands-on experiences are an important part of that approach, giving participants an opportunity to connect lessons about marine science and conservation with the ecosystems themselves.
