TRIBUTES PAID TO VETERAN BROADCASTER CALSEY JOHNSON

Participants at the ZNS Retirees Association’s Memorial Service celebrating the life and times of Calsey Johnson at Rhodes Memorial Methodist Church, Montrose Avenue, on Monday night.

NASSAU, Bahamas, November 5, 2019 – Family, friends and former colleagues gathered at Rhodes Memorial Methodist Church on Montrose Avenue on Monday night, November 4, 2019, for a Memorial Service for former broadcaster, diplomat and Senator Calsey Johnson, who died on October 24. A state funeral will held on Friday.

Many of his colleagues paying their respects knew Mr Johnson as a “broadcast giant” and a true professional.

Among those attending the service were former broadcaster and High Commissioner to the Court of St. James, Mr Ed Bethel, who worked with Mr Johnson at ZNS Radio and Television. Others paying tributes were former broadcaster and former Minister of Tourism, Mr. Obie Wilchcombe; Chairman of ZNS and former MP and High Commissioner to Canada, Mr. Mike Smith; and former broadcaster Mr Picewell Forbes, Member of Parliament for South Andros.

Mr Johnson served as  general manager of the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas for a number of years and later became the executive chairman of the BCB.

Upon his retirement, he became involved in business  and was later appointed as a Senator and Bahamas High Commissioner to Canada.
