WASHINGTON, D.C., June 25, 2022 – His Excellency Wendall Jones, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, on Monday, June 13, 2022, presented his Letter of Credence to President Joe Biden in the Oval Office at The White House. Photographs taken during the occasion,  officially accrediting Mr. Jones as the new Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, were emailed to The Embassy – along with a copy of remarks made by President Biden – on Friday, January 24.

In his remarks, President Biden said Ambassador Jones’ “arrival in Washington signifies the long-standing friendship and partnership between our nations, as well as our enduring commitment to mutually beneficial trade and investment, regional security, and cultural exchange.”

“As both of our nations face an increasingly complex and interconnected world, your presence will ensure continuing excellent cooperation between our two countries,” President Biden said. “As we continue our united efforts to fight a global pandemic that caused so much loss, our governments will continue working together to save lives, recover economically, build back stronger, and  spread prosperity more widely for the benefit of our citizens.”

President Biden added, “We also share an interest in enhancing regional security by curtailing the power and influence of transactional criminal organizations. We are working diligently together to curb illicit trafficking in our hemisphere, and I thank The Bahamas for being a steadfast and reliable partner.

“Finally, I look forward to continuing our cooperation on speaking out for democracy and human rights in the Americas. Your country has been a leader on this front, and we all must continue to make our voices heard in defense of those who are prevented, sometimes brutally, from speaking for themselves.

“Mr. Ambassador, I look forward to working with you to advance our common agenda and deepen the bonds between our countries. It is a pleasure to welcome you to Washington.”
