SHARM EL SHEIK, Egypt – Nov. 7, 2022 – Prime Minister Philip E. Davis today announced a trailblazing new agreement with the Bahamian-led company Partanna, which is poised to transform the construction industry in The Bahamas using breakthrough green technology developed to reduce atmospheric carbon. Partanna will finance and develop 30 new affordable, sustainable homes in The Bahamas.

“With the innovative new carbon negative building material, these homes are projected to be eligible for Carbon Credits and will serve as proof of concept for a larger project to build 1,000 affordable green homes across The Bahamas over the next three years,” the Office of the Prime Minister revealed in a post on Facebook.

That the Prime Minister chose to announce the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) while attending the COP27 Summit in Egypt clearly underscores why the Prime Minister has described “climate justice as the greatest fight of our time”, adding that “fighting climate change and fighting for fair climate finance are central to our country’s ability to survive.”

“The Bahamas contributes the tiniest percentage of global carbon emissions, yet we are frequently amongst the most at risk. That is why our country’s climate activism and leadership are so important,” the Prime Minister said in an address to the nation shortly before he left for the summit.

Leaders from 120 countries are meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh to discuss next steps in curbing climate change and among the key topics are compensation and support for the most-affected countries.

One of the principals of Partanna is former Bahamian professional basketball player Rick Fox, Bahamas Ambassador-at-large, who accompanied the Prime Minister to Egypt for the signing of the MOU.

With this leading-edge project, the government is targeting two key priorities for The Bahamas: making home ownership affordable for Bahamians and achieving the country’s carbon emission goals.
