WASHINGTON, D.C., April 26, 2024 – The Office of the Prime Minister posted a collection of photos on Facebook today that I absolutely had to share with readers of my Washington, D.C. – based online publication, BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which has a huge following among Bahamians in the diaspora across the United States, BCanada and the United Kingdom as well as in The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean.

The photos were posted with the following narrative:

“In the face of disaster, collaboration is key. We’re grateful for the support of our partners in the non-profit and private sectors, whose dedication helps keep our islands and people safe. For over 80 years Bahamas Red Cross Society has been an invaluable ally in this mission.

As we gear up for #DisasterPreparednessMonth, Prime Minister Davis had the opportunity to visit our long-standing partners at The Bahamas Red Cross. Alongside President Edison Sumner and the dedicated team, PM toured the Nassau base – where over 150 hot meals are served every day – and engaged in discussions about enhancing coordination between the organizations.

It’s clear: Strong partnerships lead to strong responses. Here’s to another 80+ years of collaboration and resilience with The Bahamas Red Cross! “

Commenting on the Prime Minister’s “courtesy call” this morning, Bahamas Red Cross Society President Edison Sumner said, “I was pleased to welcome the Prime Minister to the Bahamas Red Cross today. As the patron of the Bahamas Red Cross, it was important to have him visit with us to discuss the work of the Red Cross, including our readiness to respond to disasters and other exigencies. “

Mr. Sumner added, “We were pleased to give the Prime Minister a tour of our facilities so that he was able to have a full appreciation of our work in supporting the most vulnerable people in our community. I am pleased with the Prime Minister’s commitment to the Red Cross and efforts we are making to further strengthen the partnership between the Bahamas Red Cross and the Government of The Bahamas.”
