THE TILLER OF THE SHIP OF STATE CLEARLY IS NOW IN RESPONSIBLE HANDS BOTH POLITICALLY AND ADMINISTRATIVELY

WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 18, 2023 – Nicola Sands posted an excellent collection of photos on Facebook today that were taken by Anthon Thompson at Mount Tabor Baptist Church, where Prime Minister Philip E. Davis and members of the governing Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) marked their second anniversary in office by attending a church service on Sunday, September 17, 2023.

I absolutely had to share these remarkable photos along with a commentary with readers of my online publication, BAHAMAS CHRONICLE, which has a huge following among the Bahamian diaspora across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom as well as in The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean.

There is clear evidence that Prime Minister Davis and his administration have done an excellent job in providing good governance to The Bahamas since taking over the stewardship of the country following the PLP’s landslide victory in the September 16, 2021, general election.

Reporting on the results of a survey conducted earlier this month by the Bahamian market research and strategy forum, Public Domain, The Nassau Guardian reported in an article on September 11 the Prime Minister had a better than 60 percent and so did his government,

The Nassau Guardian today reported in another article written by Ms. Dames that Prime Minister Philip E. Davis said two years ago “when the PLP came into office, we said that we were not here to maintain the status quo,” adding, “We were here to lay the foundation for big changes as we take steps toward a fairer and more prosperous society for all Bahamians.”

“Our first priority was to drive the recovery of the economy and job market, strengthen the healthcare system, and reopen schools,” the Prime Minister was quoted as saying. “So many people were suffering financially, going hungry, and praying for better days. We moved immediately to expand support to those who needed it the most while rolling out a new, data-driven approach to combatting COVID-19.”

The Prime Minister said that within months “the economy roared back to life”, and “we began seeing major progress as hope returned to our nation”.

With the recovery well on its way, the Prime Minister then enumerated the steps in “laying the foundation for change in those early days,” including “increasing the national minimum wage, lowering customs duties, investing in food security, and taking care of our public servants by increasing salaries and decreasing backlogs.”

The Nassau Guardian article added, “We invested in clinics, airports, and roads on various Family Islands to pave the way for economic growth. Tourism arrivals are now at record levels, unemployment is at its lowest levels in 15 years, and Bahamians are getting the opportunity to own their own homes through our housing developments.

“We are securing the future by advancing the global conversation on climate change and developing practical solutions to finance our progress toward climate-resilient infrastructure and renewable energy for cleaner, cheaper, more affordable power generation.”

Clearly, the tiller of the Ship of State is now in responsible hands both politically and administratively.
