SAINT VINCENT, March 1, 2024 — The outgoing President of CELAC, St. Vincent’s Prime Minister, Ralph Gonsalves, stated that it is distressingly painful to witness live on television the intransigence of Israel’s leadership and its limited and declining number of supporters, The St. Vincent Times reported today.

Gonsalves said this is in relation to the perpetration of genocide against the people of Gaza and the Palestinians generally, as he delivered remarks at the 8th summit of CELAC in St. Vincent on Friday.

“In CELAC’s draft declaration, we are demanding, among other things, an immediate ceasefire, ample humanitarian assistance, the observance of international law, a peaceful resolution of the conflict, and two state solutions,” Gonzalves said.

According to Gonsalves, the United Nations has repeatedly endorsed this route.

Gaza health authorities said Israeli forces on Thursday shot dead more than 100 Palestinians as they waited for an aid delivery, but Israel blamed the deaths on crowds that surrounded aid trucks, saying victims had been trampled or run over.

At least 112 people were killed and more than 280 wounded in the incident near Gaza City, Palestinian health officials said.

Medics in Gaza said they could not cope with the flood of serious injuries, which came as the death toll in nearly five months of war passed 30,000, according to Palestinian health authorities.

The prime minister said similarly: the terrible ordeal in Ukraine must come to an end with negotiations for peace between Russia on the one hand and NATO and Ukraine on the other.

“There is no other practical or wise conclusion. The continuation of this senseless war has the potential to lead humanity into a nuclear Armageddon,” Gonsalves stated.
